I watched every mother\u2019s nightmare \nunfold yesterday in a conversation on a local online mom\u2019s group.  It \nbegan when the baby\u2019s aunt asked frantically for prayers for her nephew,\n who had gotten his four-month shots that day and was found unresponsive\n in the evening.  Then we learned the baby had apparently bled from \nevery orifice and had swelling of the brain. The aunt shared that they \nkept the baby \u201calive\u201d to give family time to arrive at the hospital. \n And then, the baby died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aunt told us the probable \ndiagnosis was SIDS. When the family questioned the doctor about whether \nthe vaccines (pneumococcal, H. influenza (HIB), rotavirus, diphtheria, \npertussis, tetanus (DTaP) and polio, and perhaps hepatitis B if he had \nnot yet received that at birth) administered just hours before could \nhave caused this massive organ failure and death, the doctor denied the \npossibility of any causal relationship between the baby\u2019s death and the \nvaccinations he was given. The doctor justified that conclusion on the \nbasis of the infant not reacting poorly to the series of shots given at \ntwo months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So a healthy baby goes in for a well \nchild check with a minor cold, receives multiple vaccines and is dead \nwithin hours but there is no possibility the vaccinations played any \nrole in the infant\u2019s sudden death?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is always tragic when an infant \ndies. As a family physician responsible for the care of many children, \nmy distress is felt at a professional as well as a personal level when a\n child dies. Why did this child die and what could have been done to \nprevent this baby\u2019s death and saved these parents from the lifetime of \ngrief that results from such a loss?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I reached out privately to my \ncolleagues for support.  Some responded with sincere sadness and worry. \nOne physician friend recalled a night on call as a resident when a \ntwo-month-old died following a hepatitis B vaccination given earlier \nthat day. The attending physicians wouldn\u2019t let my friend report the \ndeath to VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System) because they \ndeemed the death after the hepatitis B vaccination to be \u201ca \ncoincidence.\u201d My story brought back those memories for her and she felt \nawful and conflicted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another physician friend told me \n\u201cIt\u2019s sad when babies die,\u201d and went on to admit concerns about \nvaccines, but ended by saying, \u201cBut of course the benefits outweigh the \nrisks.\u201d In response to my concern about the temporal relationship \nbetween a healthy child receiving vaccines and that child dying within \nhours, a common theme among these doctors seemed to be, \u201ccorrelation \ndoes not equal causation,\u201d and \u201cthey may harm some but overall they\u2019re \nmore beneficial to the majority.\u201d No one seemed interested in exploring \nthe deadly correlation in this case or in learning more about how \ninjecting not just disease antigens but many other chemicals, adjuvants \nand foreign DNA into infants might affect them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a physician, stories like this one\n make me ask some difficult questions. Since nothing in our medical \ntraining has prepared us to recognize or respond to treat vaccine \nreactions, and we don\u2019t seem to be able to recognize death as an adverse\n reaction when it happens within 24 hours of receiving a vaccine, how in\n the world are we going to recognize any of the other milder warning \nsigns of vaccine adverse events that could harm a child\u2019s health? Is it \npossible that this baby had symptoms that his body wasn\u2019t handling his \nearlier shots, and due to adherence to the prevailing one-size-fits-all \nmindset, those signs went unnoticed? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A colleague of mine stumbled upon a book called Every Second Child<\/em>\n by Archie Kalokerinos, MD. Dr. Kalokerinos found that many babies who \npresented similarly to the baby in my town turned out to have vitamin C \ndeficiency (scurvy). He found old studies supporting the use of high \ndose vitamin C, and began using that treatment. Dr. Kalokerinos won the \nAustralian Medal of Merit in 1978 for lowering the infant mortality rate\n from 50 percent to almost none. He felt so strongly about sharing his \nfindings that he gave his book away rather than selling it.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we care about protecting the \n\u201cgreater good\u201d then why is it so politically incorrect to care about the\n individual casualties of what is presumed to be a \u201cgood\u201d medical \nintervention? If we are so smart and have so much science behind our \ndecisions, why would we not look at those who die after vaccination to \nfind commonalities for the purpose of finding ways to prevent a \nvaccine-related death or injury?    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We should not be afraid to explore \nthe relationship between vitamin levels, electrolytes, genetics, family \nhistory, breastfed versus formula fed status, method of birth, prenatal \nhistory and antibiotic use, and the specific and nonspecific negative \neffects of vaccines. It seems unethical for physicians to demand the \nfull cooperation of parents in vaccinating their children with every one\n of the 50 doses of 14 vaccines currently recommended by the CDC \nstarting on the day of birth through age six, only to be abandoned with a\n shrug and \u201cit\u2019s for the greater good\u201d when their child is injured or \ndies after receiving those vaccines.2<\/a><\/sup> 3<\/a><\/sup> 4<\/a><\/sup> 5<\/a><\/sup> 6<\/a><\/sup> 7<\/a><\/sup> 8<\/a><\/sup> 9<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to know why the lives of those\n who might die from \u201cvaccine preventable diseases\u201d matter more than \nthose who die from vaccines? If we don\u2019t know why a four-month-old baby \nin our community died, don\u2019t we owe it to that child and his family to \nat least be curious?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
